Short reports Severe hypercalcaemia in B-cell lymphoma: combined eVects of PTH-rP, IL-6 and TNF

چکیده
Hypercalcaemia as the only manifestation of B-cell lymphoma is seen very rarely. Its pathophysiology is heterogenous and not well understood. We report a 73-year-old man who presented with severe hypercalcaemia before any signs of malignancy became evident. He was diagnosed with a B-cell lymphoma on bone marrow trephine biopsy. The hypercalcaemia was associated with high plasma concentrations of parathyroid-hormone-related protein, interleukin-6 and tumour necrosis factor. Our patient had markedly increased osteoclast and osteoblast activity as a result of synergistic eVects between these factors, with consequent severe hypercalcaemia. This is the first reported example of such combined effects of these factors in humans.

Predictive values of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10 for radiation pneumonitis
Background: To investigate the expression of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10 in the plasma of patients with lung cancer who received radiation therapy (RT), and to analyze the correlation between these cytokines and radiation pneumonitis (RP). Materials and Methods: Patients with lung cancer who received 3D-CRT in our hospital were prospectively evaluated. Circulating cytokine levels were measured wit...
متن کاملA Survey on the Role of Interleukin-10 in Breast Cancer: A Narrative
Interleukin (IL)-10, a multifunctional immune-regulatory cytokine with both immunosuppressive and anti-angiogenic functions, is produced by immune cells including macrophages, T lymphocytes, and natural killer cells. Among other effects, IL-10 promotes tumor cell proliferation and metastasis via immunosuppression. Interleukin-10-mediated immunosuppression is aided by synthesis of tumor necrosis...

متن کاملSevere hypercalcaemia and lymphoma in an HTLV-1 positive Jamaican woman: a case report
Human T cell lymphotrophic virus type-1 infection is endemic in the Afro-Caribbean community in Britain, with carriage rates of about 3%. Although there is a long latency, carriers have a 1-5% chance of developing adult T cell leukaemia/lymphoma, a condition frequently complicated by marked and refractory hypercalcaemia, and with a poor prognosis. We present the case of an elderly Jamaican woma...
متن کاملCinacalcet for Hypercalcemia Caused by Pulmonary Squamous Cell Carcinoma Producing Parathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide
BACKGROUND Current treatments for hypercalcemia caused by lung cell carcinomas producing parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTH-rp) have limited efficacy, probably because of their lack of effect on PTH-rp secretion. In this case study we explored the efficacy of the calcimimetic cinacalcet as suppressor of PTH-rp production. PATIENT A 57-year-old male with severe and recurrent hypercalcemi...
